Blairgowrie sits on the banks of the river Ericht and is one of the largest towns in Perthshire. Based in a country location with abundant wild life and views over fields and woodland, Muirton House is nestled in large, peaceful grounds incorporating a sensory garden.
Muirton have been providing dementia (EMI), nursing and residential care for 25 years with an excellent team of care staff. They have registered nurses on site 24 hours a day. The dementia unit has been upgraded with themed areas such as sport, farming, music and film and items of interest are displayed on walls to encourage reminiscing. The manager and staff have completed champions training run by Alzheimer’s Society.
Close to Perth, Pitlochry, Dundee and Dunkeld they make good use of their mini bus for trips out shopping or having coffee in town. Activities include domino nights, entertainment, baking group, craft club and music and movement group.
From the manager
“Muirton House Nursing Home is situated on the outskirts of the country town of Blairgowrie. Set in its own large gardens, the home has open views of fields, hills and woodland with an abundance of wildlife including red squirrels and deer. The home celebrates 30 years of care provision in 2019 and is well respected within the sector. The home has a low turnover of staff, many working in Muirton House for several years, and with a wealth of experience in nursing, dementia and learning disability care. Visitors to the home remark on the warm, friendly welcome they get and many of our clients come through recommendations from other residents or their families. Friends and families work closely with staff to provide the best possible care for our residents. Many say they feel part of the home and visit regularly. They take part in activities within the home, enjoy coffee or a meal with their family member and are listened to if they have any concerns. Muirton House employs 2 activity coordinators who arrange a diverse range of activities within the home or on outings using our own mini bus. Visits to local hotels for coffee or a Christmas dinner are popular with residents who can be joined by family members. We have worked closely with youth groups and nursery children to promote intergenerational activities which appears to benefit young and old alike. Residents are supported to be independent, make choices and live life to the fullest. If you would like to view Muirton House, my staff and myself would warmly welcome you and happily show you round our lovely home. Please drop in anytime or if preferred call 01250 872113 to arrange an appointment.”
